Stephen A. Jones leads McGraw-Hill Construction’s initiatives in Building Information Modeling, Interoperability, and Integrated Project Delivery. As MHC’s senior director of business development, Jones’ also creates alliance relationships in technology and content with major corporations. He speaks on the implications of these new technologies and processes in the 2007 co-authored MHC’s SmartMarket Report on Interoperability, which has been distributed to over 200,000 industry professionals. He also co-authored the SmartMarket Report on BIM, released in December 2008. Before joining McGraw-Hill, Jones’ was a vice president with Primavera Systems, a leading project management software provider to the construction industry. He has also spent 19 years in a variety of design and management roles with architecture firms. Recently he was a principal and board of directors member with Burt Hill. Steve is on the Board of Direction of the buildingSMART Alliance; he represents MHC on the Process Transformation Committee of CURT (Construction Users Roundtable) and MHC on the AGC (Associated General Contractors) BIM Forum. |

Steve Shirley is the President and CEO of the University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, San Diego, California. Shirley has over 36 years of experience in the mechanical contracting industry. He began his career as a project engineer and he has worked his way through many different positions including: Project Management, Estimator, Purchasing Agent, Operations Management, Division Manager, and Vice President. University Mechanical is a diversified mechanical contractor performing different tasks like piping, plumbing, sheetmetal, and boilermaker work. Shirley is an active member of the MCAA and has served on the National Board of Directors as well as the Technology Committee. He is currently a member of their Education Committee and Chairman of the MCAA’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) committee. In addition he is a two-time president of the California Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association (CPMCA) and also serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Chapter of the Lean Construction Institute and the ACE Mentoring Program. |

John Koontz currently serves as MCAA’s National Director for Project Management and Advanced Supervisory Education. A former tenured associate professor in Purdue University’s Department of Building Construction Management, he served as Purdue’s Mechanical Construction Management Coordinator. He has been teaching since 1992 and brings a balance of academic and practical experience to his courses. Koontz spent 15 years in the employment of MCAA contractors in a variety of positions including senior project manager, project manager, project engineer, and estimator. He is the director of the MCAA Institute for Project Management at the University of Texas in Austin, and has just completed a term on the Mechanical Contracting Foundation’s Board of Trustees. In addition to traveling the country to support MCAA’s National Education Initiative, Koontz remains active in continuing education, research and writing in the area of mechanical contracting, and MCAA Student Chapter development. |
