What is LEED

Chicago was one of the first cities to adopt the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System, and according to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), has more building projects registered to earn this certification than any other city worldwide.

Developed by the USGBC, the LEED® Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. Buildings can be LEED® rated at one of several levels, which include Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. In Chicago, all new and renovated municipal buildings must meet the LEED Silver rating as a stipulation under the city’s own Chicago Standard.

MCA contractors gain valuable green building expertise through classes offered through their Green Construction Institute, and on-line through webcasts featuring some of the leading experts in the field of green building and LEED certification.
